Han Tan, PhD, MBBS

Principal Investigator, Assistant Professor,

Department of Anatomy & Neurobiology, UC Irvine School of Medicine

 

Bio: Han earned his Bachelor of Medicine degree from Peking University Health Science Center in China, where he studied the mechanisms of cerebral ischemia under the mentorship of Dr. Yun Wang. He then pursued his Ph.D. at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine with Dr. Richard Huganir, where he investigated the cellular and molecular mechanisms of synaptic plasticity, with a particular focus on AMPA receptor trafficking. Following his doctoral training, Han joined Dr. Jeffrey Friedman’s laboratory at The Rockefeller University as a postdoctoral fellow. There, he studied the neural circuits and molecular mechanisms that regulate energy balance, with a particular emphasis on leptin signaling. Han is currently a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Anatomy & Neurobiology at the University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine.
