Han Tan, PhD, MBBS
Principal Investigator, Incoming Assistant Professor,
Department of Anatomy & Neurobiology, UC Irvine School of Medicine
Bio: Han earned his Bachelor of Medicine degree from Peking University Health Science Center in China, where he studied the mechanisms of cerebral ischemia under the mentorship of Dr. Yun Wang. He then pursued his Ph.D. with Dr. Richard Huganir at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, focusing on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of synaptic plasticity, particularly the trafficking of AMPA receptors. Following a productive doctoral training, Han joined Dr. Jeffrey Friedman’s laboratory at Rockefeller University as a postdoctoral fellow, where he investigated the cellular and molecular mechanisms of energy balance regulation, with a particular emphasis on leptin function. Han will launch his independent research group in the Department of Anatomy & Neurobiology at the University of California, Irvine, in March 2026.
